HOW I WORK
The word therapy may be used used whether you're seeking counselling or psychotherapy. Counselling may initially address a current or specific concern, such as a work or relationship difficulty. Often, a current concern will have links with past experience.
Both counselling and psychotherapy explore the rich tapestry of your life from childhood onwards, and look deeply within to uncover unconscious patterns and conflicts.
Therapy can be an enlightening journey, introducing a range of new insights, perspectives and possibilities, and addressing assumptions, beliefs and behaviours. New ways of being can become possible.
I'm a trauma-informed therapist, working with embodied regulation, childhood trauma, attachment wounds and socio-political contexts. I value a co-created therapeutic space that holds warmth, empathy, humility, and respectful challenge.
I'm informed by a range of modalities, from humanistic to transpersonal. I tailor my approach to suit you, rather than a 'one-size-fits-all' approach.
I'm a relational therapist. Relational work means that I see us as two human beings in the room, not as one expert and one 'patient.' I intend to be honest, open and curious when I reflect with you. If I get it wrong, I intend to be honest about that too, and see how we can learn and grow from it.
I don't take the 'blank screen' approach, meaning I don't stare at you in silence. If I don't share my thoughts with you, the therapy is only taking place in my head. I offer a caring and reflective space, where you're valued for the unique individual you are. This kind of environment can be rare to find, and powerful to experience.
I offer long-term and short-term therapy. Goals may change over time, which we can discuss along the way. Some areas I specialise in include depression, anxiety, childhood trauma, minority stress, neurodiversity, relationship issues, mixed-heritage and cross-cultural experience, intimacy issues, loss, bereavement and life transitions. Nothing shocks me, and I don’t judge. Please enquire if you want to discuss a particular area further.
